"Eden!"
Eden stood still, and carefully looked back. Newt noticed her tear-stained cheeks, and immediately felt a pang of hurt inside his stomach. He couldn't stand seeing her like this. So sad, so broken.
"Eden," he repeated, softer. She didn't react when he stepped closer, she just looked at him with a heart-broken expression on her face.
"Why?" She whispered, just loud enough for Newt to hear. "Why us?" Newt looked at her, and sighed. He stepped closer once more and engulfed her in a tight hug, pressing her head into his chest. Eden closed her eyes and inhaled his soothing and comforting scent. Newt rubbed her back, he felt her warm breathing in the back of his neck, causing him to shiver slightly.
"I don't know, Eden, but I promise you we'll be okay."

The sunlight burned. That's the first thing she thought when the metal bin finally opened its top to let her out.
