Established as a national park in 1973, the Manes National Park, nestled near the foothills of the Kamrup district, is famously home to tigers. It is in fact presently one of the L9 parks under the watchful eye of the Project Tiger. The wetlands here are of international importance and crucial for the survival of the near extinct Hispanic hare and pygmy hog. Some of the animals like rhino, will buffalo, elephants, gaur, swamp deer, capped langur and clouded leopard; and birds lice giant hornbill, pheasants, partridge, scarlet minivet, florican, jungle fowl, mergansers, egrets, herons and pelican are proud residents of this park.
