Rosemary was traumatized after her brother's disappearance, but she made a promise to him- she would stop the thing that took him from taking her at any cost, even doing the thing that she hated the most. Magic. 

When she finally went to Hogwarts, she worked hard to keep her mother's side of the family, and where she went when she snuck out, secret. But also to save her father from hateful death eaters and to save her mother from the prejudiced mermaids in the lake she lived in.
