After the death of his last Scribe, High Priest Luriel the Seventh is on the hunt for another. Halfway across the world, Dakota Locke is being granted the chance of a lifetime. When the two of them meet, Dakota sees a way out from the abuse of the Scholars of the Lost - and she's not the only one. All it requires is following the decaying High Priest around the world as he seeks redemption and resurrection from the gods.
What at first seems to be a simple task reveals to be anything but. An enemy of the Scholars is raized and from there, the animosity from across the sea and within Luriel's ranks only seem to grow. Dakota must choose between what everyone wants her to be and what is right. Failing to do so will spell the end for her - and for everyone else.
