Bitter only has one dream. To be a Star. In a nation dominated by Reality TV, high ratings are the key to escaping poverty. Sixteen years ago, Bitter's mother was elected as the youngest First Lady since the Twenty Month Darkness. But a surprise pregnancy had her banished from the District of Canals in disgrace.

Now Bitter is a contender for First Lady and she is determined to vindicate her mother's name. First she must defeat her long-time rival and escape the temptation of her obstinate ex-boyfriend.

Bitter's dream finally seems at hand when her missing childhood friend, Joy, appears one night. The cameras are always running and Joy thinks Bitter is the key to turning off the live-stream for good. Her earnest accomplice, Joseph, claims he is descended from one of the original First Families. Together, they want Bitter to win, so she can infiltrate the White House and overthrow the president.

Bitter must make a choice. Will she stay content with false reality or risk it all to be true to her heart?
