Alice lost so much already, her parents,  her lover, her friend... She suffered through the disease of Fragile Heart Syndrome, and discovered the truth of the 'cure'. And now finally released, she's not even truly free, for they are watching her.
Brandon Swift, head of the residence, tried to stop them, and failed. 
But Alice isn't a failure nor a quitter and she made a promise to the boy she loved, that she'll bring down the government for once and for all.
 When President White sends her and Derek, (the extremely handsome caretaker who she really can't stand, because around him her feelings are confused), to New York on a mission for the 'cure', Alice takes the opportunity to plot for the revolution.
