************************************************************************************** An outcast rogue must break a curse put on his fate, or die on his nineteenth birthday. In JOS I set the rogue and con-artist Harric against a foil of warriors in a land threatened by magic and civil war. Whenever possible I turn familiar tropes on their heads: instead of a handsome young Lancelot, I cast a broken-down ex-champion addicted to pain-killing herbs; instead of a dashing Squire Brian, the old knight reluctantly takes an ambitious young woman as squire. Similarly, I re-imagine the standard medieval milieu by infusing aspects of two of my favorite historical periods, Elizabethan England, and The American Frontier. Both eras boast a kind of nationalistic arrogance that borders on hubris, and a magnificent spirit of resourcefulness and re-invention that is fun to play with. SERIES The Jack of Souls is first in a series. I am posting parts of the sequel here now (The Knave of Souls), to help me refine the story.

Mora, once innocent and sheltered, begins a new life at a prestigious academy. But as chilling secrets about her past-and the world around her-begin to unravel, she starts to wonder: Was any of it ever real, or was she living inside a web of lies? What starts as a search for truth spirals into something far darker. Mora realizes she isn't just uncovering secrets-she's walking a path someone designed for her. A pawn in a deeper, crueler game. Can she break free from a fate she never chose? Antagonist (Kairos): "They call it fate. I call it design. You don't lose when I take your will-you lose the moment you believed you ever had it. Fate isn't cruel. It's exactly methodical." Aaron: "People always think peaceful places are so damn perfect. But peace can be heavy too, can't it? Like silence that never lets you speak." Mora: "I never asked to be everyone's perfect doll-no thanks. Perfection's just a fancy cage wearing a pretty face. If it thinks it can keep me locked in, it's got another thing coming. Time to say goodbye, and don't let the door hit you on the way out-with grace, okay sweetheart." Tagline: "She didn't ask to be saved. She only wanted not to be unseen." --- Content Warning: This story contains emotionally charged content and intense scenes, including psychological trauma, manipulation, and grief, as well as vivid combat sequences involving blood, injury, and high-stakes confrontation. Themes of identity, moral ambiguity, and emotional conflict are explored throughout. Not every wound is visible. Not every battle ends with victory. "A/N: This story has an alternate version with a different protagonist. If you're interested in exploring the same world and themes from a different perspective, check out 'What Left' story!"

(leon s. kennedy x fem!reader ff) ( 𝙐𝙉𝙀𝘿𝙄𝙏𝙀𝘿 ) lowercase intended. 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗗𝗘𝗦: re4/re4r + separate ways remake. [ y/n will be customizable, but i want to let you know: y/n will be opposite to ashley. this is to contrast the two characters as there will be friction between them for story purposes. it will be alluded that y/n is partially of spanish descent-whether she is spanish, latina, or even southeast asian, that's up to you-but it will not be too obvious for the reader's sake. the two girls won't HATE each other, but there will be rivalry (& shared ada wong jealousy lol) for opposing reasons. may include some ada x reader (+ x leon x luis x wesker) + luis x reader (+ x ashley) + wesker x reader + krauser x reader + ramón x reader + saddler x reader. ]

I shrunk back into my seat as his head snapped towards me. He looked like his head was going to fall off. His eyes were blazing with rage. His face was set into an icy glare. His fists that rested on the table were clenched so hard his knuckles were white. As he stood from his chair so did I. I felt like the prey to the biggest predator in the jungle. I took two steps back for every stride he took towards me. I gulped again before shaking me head. "She's just joking Ace." my voice quivered as I took another two steps back. "How do I know that?" he sneered down at me, his body towering over me. As I went to take another step backwards, my back made contact with the wall behind me. Well great. Now I'm cornered. This is just typical. ............................................................. One girl moves to the big apple after her family disintegrates around her. All she has left is her one brother. 🛑 - CLOSED until 2021. ***If you're interested in my critiques, you might want to check out my weekly newsletter for opportunities to get a personalized critique. https://paula.substack.com/p/coming-soon Does your work stand out in an overly-crowded landscape? Does your story & writing shine as far as: ★ - Concept ★ - Voice ★ - Storytelling The Standouts is a fun, but hopefully helpful contest that can give you a sense of whether your story resonates with someone who's got some experience under her belt. Great! But who are you to judge? Fair question. This is not to humble-brag, but I've been critiquing and have worked with story development for quite some time, and I've picked up a lot along the way. ☙ - As an Ambassador, I work on content projects. ☙ - If you look at my profile, you'll see everything I've published so far has managed to standout in one way or another, whether by leading me to become a Wattpad Star; or by winning a Watty (twice!); or by being picked as a Top 10 in major Wattpad contests (twice!); or being featured. All I'm saying is I'm no slouch. I'm not brilliant either. But I've got some experience around what can catch an agent, editor, or judge's eye, and I'd like to share that with the community. ☙ - In another lifetime, I used to work for HBO in Development and at ICM (the talent agency) in their writers' department which means I understand how professionals quickly gauge whether or not they'll take a closer look at a work and/or make an offer. This kind of insight can be helpful if you're planning to submit your work or even just want to stand out more here on Wattpad. ☙ - I used to provide critiques for three writers, all of them traditionally published. They seemed to value my insight. Read the RULES, LOGISTICS & PRIZES chapter for guidelines. All entries get a brief assessment of their first chapter, with winners getting more extensive critiques. Sound interesting? Give it a go! 😊
