An unexpected opportunity,
A secluded New England university campus,
-It's a chance for a new life.

When would-be professor "Mac" Mackenzie accepts an interview for a job at Miskatonic University, he's eager to get started. He has few prospects, overdue student loans and a desire to begin a career. Mac might be willing to leave friends and family behind for the right
teaching position. But is this the right position? With its isolated location, medieval architecture and run-down reputation it's not the most prestigious college.

Well, it's just an interview, right?

He brushed his lips against my jaw, his dark hair falling over his brow. "Open your eyes," he commanded. "Look at me." I followed his orders and looked into the raven-black depths before me. I saw my entranced gaze reflected in his glaring one. "Tell me what you see." I kept on looking at him, searching for something, anything, that remained of the person he used to be. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. But his eyes were so dark, so empty . . . "Nothing. I see nothing," I whispered. He smirked, his gaze still on me. He pulled away, leaving me feeling cold. "Exactly. You see nothing - that's because there's nothing there." ** How much can a person change in just three years? Short and full of fiery spirit, Hanna Jordan is a gifted college student who is enrolled in one of the most prestigious culinary programs in the country. She's just returned from three years of study in France and is anxious to reconnect with her longtime friend, Rian Aronhalt. However, when she does finally see him, she's startled to find that he's become an entirely different person. Cold, ill-tempered, and exceptionally attractive, Rian is absolutely nothing like his old self. Worst of all, he claims he doesn't even remember her. Despite their differences, both are haunted by dark memories of the past, which form a poisonous bond between Hanna and Rian that neither can escape from. Can they both heal from the scars time left behind, and find love in the process?

The year is 1975. A new term has begun at Miskatonic University. Neal Carter, an assistant professor of linguistics, is completing his first week of teaching classes when he makes a fateful decision. Story #1 in the Arkham Files series. In Arkham Files, White Collar characters are fused into the world of the Cthulhu Mythos. No prior knowledge of either White Collar or Lovecraft is required. Although Lovecraft is a master of the horror genre, in Arkham Files the emphasis is on science fiction and fantasy with a generous sprinkling of romance. First names are the same as in White Collar. Neal Caffrey is known as Neal Carter. Peter Burke is Peter Gilman. In addition to Neal and Peter, White Collar characters include Diana, Mozzie, Elizabeth, June, Sara, Jones, and Hughes. Neal and Sara are both a few years younger than their New York counterparts. The series is a meta work with the stories referenced in the Caffrey Conversation series. It's not necessary to read the Caffrey Conversation stories beforehand, but for readers who do, there is an added dimension. More information about the meta aspect is on my blog, Penna Nomen & Silbrith Conversation. Disclaimer: These stories are for fun. I do not own White Collar or the world of the Cthulhu Mythos.
