Arabella Washington is a smart mouthed, talkative, highly intelligent girl who always feels like she has something to prove. Coming from a family of well educated individuals, she feels she needs to live up to that, and finds the perfect opportunity at Columbia University.
John Laurens is the loud, smiling, beaten down boy from South Carolina. At sixteen, he moved away to get away from his father, a cruel man who resorted to violence. Now, he will show everyone that he is not weak like his father. He is shocked when he receives a scholarship to Columbia University, a place where he can find friends and a new family.
