I was invited to the #RiseAbove contest for Telus(so here goes)
My only friend betrayed me.
He lived in the USA. I lived in Canada.
We communicated through text, pictures and occasionally FaceTime. I shared all my secrets, but I was too blind to see that he had not shared any of his own.
I thought I trusted him.
At one point, I even thought I loved him.
But he destroyed all that with one question. Two words ruined my entire life. I've always read stories about this happening, but I never would've thought it would happen in real life, and to me of all people.
One question, two words. Destroyed my life.

"I want a divorce." And just hearing him say that my whole world that seemed to revolve around him stopped. Gathering myself I barely managed to speak in a voice that even I could not recognise. I couldn't comprehend anything going around me. "Wh..hy?" As soon as the words left my mouth he threw the file and the photographs spread across the floor. And those photographs had me in compromising positions with not one but several men. Looking at those photos I looked straight into his eyes. Disgust and hatred. The only emotions I could see. Taking a deep breath I composed myself and tried to keep my face void of the emotions I felt at that moment. Hurt and immense pain. If he didn't trust me then he has no right to see me vulnerable too. "Is this the only reason why you want to divorce me? No other except this?" It was foolish of me to ask him but I had to make sure. Also for me trust comes before love. If he doesn't trust me I don't even want to save the relationship. "Is this not enough you whore? My life turned upside down when I was 13 My father was murder right in front of my eyes by his own brother My mother betrayed me and my father When I was 13 I was thrown in a cell and haven't seen the light since 5 years later I was finally let out of my cell And was told I had to fight for my life ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After the war that destroyed mostly every thing in America, in order to survive three major cities were built to help restore what was lost. To get everything back to normal again. Around those cities are small villages were the poor lives. The people who are barely surviving. The major city is called Alancia and that is were Victoria lives. Her father use to be the Leader of Alancia along side with his wife and brother. Until one day his brother killed him in cold blood and locked Victoria up in a cell. When she turned 18 she was offered a deal. Each year Alancia holds a fighting tournament for public display. The biggest and the baddest fight in this tournament and barely make it out alive. She has to fight in this tournament and if she won she had her freedom back. If she lost she would loose her freedom once again. Victoria knows she can't pass up this opportunity up. From the second you're in this world they tell you what is fair. What questions your allowed to ask and the ones you can never dare say. I find it damn near funny that most of you are reading this and know exactly what I mean. They put you on the path they've paved for you as kids we don't question it or even wonder if it's right for you. But beyond your paths edges is a land made up of risks and dangers. You feared it they tell you no good will come from it but how do you really know? Truth be told I was the girl who had her whole life planned out for her, straight A's, best friend, and two loving parents. I know what I wanted what I needed and I knew how to fight like hell for it. There's a reason why everyone prefers pretty lies over the bitter truth and it's usually because they can't handle the truth but I think the most likely thing is they can't handle what happens to the person once the truth comes out that's what happened to me. I was happy the way things were and then one day everything blew up in my face. Maybe the happy girl I was would have been happy living a lie for the rest of her life but no matter what the truth always comes out. So I ask you what would you have wanted the bitter truth or the pretty lie?
