Vanessa Marano has been very protective of her younger sibling, Laura Marano.
After the sudden death of their father and their mother's disappearance Vanessa has been keeping a very cloe on on Laura.
But it doesn't matter how much she tries, she can't keep Laura from discovering the horrors of the Shadow world.

This is where Ross Lynch, the best Shadowhunter there is, comes into play.
Ross brings Laura into his world, whether she likes it or not.
