The afterlife isn't what everyone says it is. Heaven and Hell both exist but things aren't as they seem. Heaven is a torture chamber filled with the screams of the "damned" blood coats the walls and demons roam every hallway. It's pristine from the outside but Heaven is the home for sinners.
Hell is all fire and brimstone on the outside, but the inside holds the laughter and joy of the good people who belong there. Angels find love and friendship with the human souls that arrive there and the good are praised for their good deeds in life.
The rolls are reversed and God hasn't been seen by anyone. He's only spoken to a select few, the first archangel Michael, Death itself, fate, the devil, and finally; Cerberus guardian of Heaven and Hell.
They keep the souls from escaping and is the first being any new soul sees when showing up in Hell. Every now and then during a lull in activity they check on Earth just so they're not too formal when they meet the new arrivals.
Whether it be on Earth or in the after life, human souls are complex and unpredictable so crazy things tend to happen. And they tend to be dragged in.

"Rejoice! Hell, and Heaven have declared a cease fire." The news echoes into every nook and cranny of the universe. It's true.
