Poetry saved my life,
I had sunken to the bottom of a sea bed,
Weighed down by my strife.

All the other fish swam past me.
Some didn't notice,
Some didn't care,
To carry out a good deed.
But poetry did.
And it pulled me up.

Back then, I used to hate water,
But poetry taught me how to swim.
It taught me how to use my fins.
And hour by hour.
day by day.
I felt life getting a bit better.

Poetry's job isn't over yet
there are plenty of fish in the sea.
