I struggled against the crowd, fighting to get to the aisle. With my heart in my throat, the screams of hundreds of people in my ears and Jeremy out of sight, I couldn't help but panic. Another chorus of raised voices arose and fingers pointed to the ceiling. I followed their direction. That was the moment my world stopped.
        The chandelier was coming down.

Nikki de La Chance holds more secrets than the Opera House itself.

Beneath her porcelain mask lies a lifetime of pretences and deceit, though none as secretive as that of her friendship with another masked murderer: The Phantom of the Opera. Nikki is sure she has everything she could ever want: a job, a lifelong friendship with the Phantom and control over practically every element in her life. That is, until Jeremy Desrosiers stumbles into her heart and shows her just how little power she has ever had over her fate.

With the Phantom falling into a bottomless pit of insanity over young soprano, Christine Daae, and the enticingly cheery, youthful nature of her new friend Jeremy offering something more than lies and empty truths, Nikki is torn between a life of darkness and music and the unfamiliar world of light and comfort. But can she learn to let go of what little control she has left before she is dragged beyond rescue into the Phantom's shadowy world?

Warning! Pheels throughout! This book might make you cry!

The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux by Imogen742
29 parts Complete
"The Phantom of the Opera" by Gaston Leroux is a fictional novel likely written in the late 19th century. The story revolves around the mysterious figure known as the Opera Ghost, who haunts the Paris Opera House and exerts influence over the opera singers, particularly the talented Christine Daaé. Central to the plot are Christine, a gifted singer sheltered by the ghost's protective presence, and Raoul, the Viscount de Chagny, who ardently loves her and becomes embroiled in the ghost's enigmatic realm. The beginning of "The Phantom of the Opera" sets up a tantalizing mystery, both through its prologue, which claims the existence of the ghost is factual, and the opening chapters that dive into the bustling environment of the opera house. As the managers are preparing for their retirement celebration, the ghost's ominous presence is felt through frightened ballet girls discussing strange happenings and a tragic death linked to the ghost, Joseph Buquet. These elements foreshadow the turmoil surrounding Christine Daaé, who after a spectacular performance, begins to withdraw from public life due to an inexplicable fear, while Raoul's affection for her fuels the narrative's tension. The stage is thus set for a Gothic tale of love, obsession, and the supernatural. As Ptolemy thought, we are all closer to Hell than we are to Heaven. If you push any man hard enough they can fall right back into the abyss from which they came. ~ Loki, The God of Mischief in The Art of Manipulation They were perfect for each other. She was light, he was darkness. She was pure, he was plagued. He was a ghost, and she was an angel. They had balanced each other like no other couple could. They calmed each other, soothed each other. They came together like Heaven and Hell, joined at the horizon by their love for music. He gave her his music and she gave him her voice. Their love was perfection in every sense of the word. They were also ignorant. Or at least...he...was ignorant. Ignorant to the fact that there was another being who loved him, too. I had loved him, that masked man. I had known him when all he was was a voice to her, her angel of music. I was his companion and he was my dream. A dream that would never be mine. A dream that I would long for for centuries. And now that I had a second chance, a second chance at the love I most desperately desired, I had to make a choice. Do I let things be, allow the Phantom's story to unravel the way it had the first time? Do I endure watching the man I love marry the woman who was so perfect for him again? That woman who was the dazzling soprano Christine Daaé? Or do I take him as my own?
