30 Days, 30 Stories: A Writing Challenge de stvnlra

This is a 30 day writing challenge, a collection of short stories. I've always been a world class procrastinator. The goal of this challenge is to get me writing regularly and, hopefully, break me of the perfectionist thinking that often paralyses me. The Rules: 1. Write and publish 1 short story (flash fic, vignette) per day for 30 days. 2. Stories must be at least 100 words. 3. They can be of any genre or subject matter. Like a lot of writers I have notebooks lying around full of random story ideas. Most of my older ideas are for novels and screenplays. Been going thru my old ideas and picking out the ones I think lend themselves to the short story format. I'm also working on coming up with NEW ideas that I can use here. Never been good at using prompts, but this is a good opportunity to experiment with those. All the stories here are original works written specifically for this challenge. They were written on the day they were published unless otherwise stated. Any similarities to other writers' work is purely coincidental. Thanks & enjoy! ~Laura, 20 Feb, 2018

This is a collection of my submission for the "Write to rank" challenge back in March 2018. White Belt: 100 word flash-fiction about a moment capture in mid-action. Yellow Belt: 500 word flash fiction about a high speed chase. Orange Belt: 800-word flash fiction that contains a dialogue between good and bad. Green Belt: 1k (min) and 1.2k (max) words - Mystery mashup with action. Blue Belt: 1.2k words - science fiction mashup with action. Purple Belt: 1k - 1.2k words - historical fiction mashup with action. Brown Belt: 2k word one-shot with the following incorporated: An explosion, a damsel (distressed or not), the words - "There is no stopping this madness." and lastly a big old cliffhanger. Red Belt: 3k word spin-off of a well-known action movie. Black Belt: Min. 5k word short story.

Lily is a snow witch with powerful magic and a quick temper. Not the best combination. But she keeps to herself, and the few people she lets get close know she has a good heart, and that's enough for her. She doesn't need any drama in her life. Except she never knows what to expect from her next-door neighbor, who is a mad scientist. Then there's her meddling family back at the North Pole. Minor irritations, but they may or may not trigger her blizzard-inducing rage from time to time, resulting in out-of-season snowstorms, snowbound towns, and confused meteorologists worldwide. Good thing she has a fairy godmother. Or is it? When a forbidden paranormal romance brings secret magic and an unspoken curse to light, the weight of the world lands on Lily's shoulders. Break the curse, save the world. Fail... And she'll destroy everything.

Darkened Souls 1: Naughty Killer de elysianzms

When the car comes to a stop, I stride across to her side pulling her out of the car forcefully, hurting her arms successfully while pulling out the cloth from her mouth and unwrapping her arms from my tie. "You fucking manic, I will scream, do you hear me, I will fucking scream" "That's the plan for tonight isn't it sweetheart" Her eyes widen visibly as her thighs clash together beneath my gaze. When I walk into the elevator, all she does is try to get away, she kicks me, attempts to punch me multiple times, I've done this with her, what? A solid seven times? I think so, I've fought with her in an elevator seven times. Caging her between my arms, she watches up at me with hatred and lust engraved as a secret message in her pupils. "What are you going to do?" Bringing my head down, kissing her pulse once more, feeling it beat faster, I whisper to her. "Fuck you senseless" Darkened Souls is a mafia Oneshot using certain aspects from my actual novel that will soon be published, eg. the characters, their motives for hate, their description, their personalities. This book is fiction and a short smutty read, enjoy<3

Tinder and Other Tales de NathanBurgoine

In 2018, I put together a simple draw to challenge myself (and anyone else who wanted to try) with flash fiction prompts made up of three suits of cards, shuffled and drawn. The clubs denoted a genre, the diamonds were an object, and the hearts were a setting. Starting with January (A fairy tale, a tattoo machine, and a prison) and drawing once a month thereafter, over the course of a week with no more than 1,000 words, the idea was to write a flash fiction piece using those prompts. It let me stretch writerly muscles a bit (especially into genres where I don't often wander). Here are all twelve stories that came out of the Flash Fiction Draw Challenge.
