What happens when the grandchildren of the rival families fall in love with each other?

Love, honor, and respect.

The motto has maintained the Torres crime family for decades. It's why they were always ten steps ahead of their adversaries. It's also why they were the most-feared crime family in all of New York. It's also why there was such a brotherhood between Pablo Torres, and his right-hand man/best friend, Clyde Lewis.

The two men formed a solid bond when their children became best friends, attending each other's birthday parties, graduations, and other celebrations in a twenty-five year time span. The sons grew up to become mafia dons in their own right, controlling all of Harlem.

But all good things must end.

When an associate of the Torres's mistakenly takes out a member of the Lewis family, all love, honor, and respect is thrown out of the window and is replaced with hate, disappointment, and revenge.

H.E.R. is a series of small novellas dealing with revenge, true love, and if time really heals. It's a modern-day retelling of Romeo and Juliet.

It was 5 years later. Time has changed. The seasons came and gone as did people. With his parents troublesome separation, 19-year-old Kairo was growing into the man he once aspired to be like; his father. But just because he looked and moved like him, didn't mean that he was anything like the man who had fucked up a good thing with his mom, or was he? He had girls, older and younger gawking and chasing after him. His family saw him as one person but in their absence, touring the streets with young Zaire, he was a different person. Despite all of that, there was love brewing; old and new and Kairo was aware of one in particular. But how far would a person be willing to go for love? Would they die for it? Could he stand back and watch another man love the woman that his father should have? Kairo knew of the man in his mother's life even if she tried to deny things. The only question he had for his father was; What Will It Take? Zaire was a lot like his father in many ways but he was still a sweetheart but proved on many occasions that he had no problems with getting his hands dirty. When you put those two together, you were bound to get into trouble. Then we had Ava, baby girl was 20 going on 21 and had graduated high school with honors and earned her associate's degree in nursing and was currently working on her last two years to earn her bachelors in fashion. She was still friends with Kayla and Michelle but was sure to kick it with Michelle every once in a while, being that her father was still trying to dig up dirt on King. The twins were grown, out of college, traveling here and there and supporting the Goonies' success of being drafted into the NBA two years ago. They were playing for the Phoenix Suns for the time being until a newer opportunity presented itself and they visited as often as they could during the offseason. Sweet little Assyria was 16, in her junior year with Zaire, both ready to get the heck out of school. ©️_jasthewriter

Angie snapped, as the graffiti covered trains roared by. "What do you see in me, anyway? I'm like any other black girl on the street!" "You really want to know what I see in you, Angela?" Austin spoke up. "I see a woman, a beautiful, smart, caring woman, with a fine sense of humor and with a good soul. That's what set you apart from all other women, not just black women that I have crossed paths with in my lifetime," he said. Tears threatened to form in Angie's eyes at his words. "I also see a woman who's been hurt so many times, that she's afraid to be close to the source," Austin continued. "Well, I'll have you know, Austin, that I am a grown woman, I'm not afraid of anything," Angie retorted with bravado. "Oh? So then why do you keep pushing me away?" Austin asked coldly. "Why can't you let me love you?" ****************************************************************************************** Set in New York City in the early 1980s, college graduate Angie Carver meets young, handsome plumbing trainee Austin Phillips on the bus. Sparks fly, and eventually they fall in love. Austin is head over heels in love with Angie.
