Both Kara and Mon el wanted to start a family together. But Kara couldn't just take 9 months off being Supergirl so that she could keep her baby safe. People would become suspicious if they found out Supergirl was MIA and she was pregnant at the same time.
This crushed Kara's dream to have a family with Mon el.
