She's a dragon who's just learning her gift. Every dragon learns how to fly when they're ten but each dragon has there own different gift and Hazel is just practicing hers fire breathing when horrible heartless hunters attack her  village that kill many of her species including her parents. She is sent away to California which is far far away from her home.
