"Edward forced himself out of his thoughts and looked at the house in front of him as it was crumbling down slowly. He reached into the pocket of his pants and pulled out the pocket watch and looked down to it.
The sign of a dog in the military...
Edward thought to himself.
He had carved inside the pocket watch with one of Winry tools before he and Alphonse left to burn their house: "Don't Forget 3. Oct. 11."

Edward and Alphonse burn down their childhood home as a symbol of never to return and start their long journey to find their original bodies.
