Lyra Black has hated her family for as long as she can remember. Their views on blood were at first annoying, until she started to hate it even more, once trying to run away from home with her brother. They got caught.

Her brother was the only kind one. The only one she could turn to. Her twin. But being both a twin and wizard can come with strange repercussions, including the fact that her and her twin can talk mind to mind, freaking many people out when they finish each other's sentences. But then her family got even worse. A year before the twins were going to start attending Hogwarts together, they thought that they only way to keep Lyra and her brother from getting in more trouble was to separate them. And so they did.

But five years after they were separated, they were still best friends, talking mind to mind with each other at least once a day, even if they haven't seen each other's faces for that long period of time. But then one day, Lyra's brother finally told her. He hated their family to much. He was going to run away. And so he did, never mind speaking to her again.

A month later she got a letter from her parents. It said that her brother had run away. It said that she was coming home to attend Hogwarts and keep her brother out of trouble.

As soon as Lyra got the letter, she started ticking off the days until the school year ended. Goodbye, Beauxbatons. Goodbye, France. Goodbye, friends that she never made. Hello, Hogwarts. Hello, horrible family.
