Two stubborn people, different lives a terrible situation that brings them together and changes their lives forever. Maya is an 18 year old girl trying to live a normal life in a war torn country. She catches the eye of an Army man (Knox) who's on his last tour of duty. When sexual sparks start to fly between them, some unsavoury characters notice and they put Maya's life in danger. Knox is forced to choose in an instant to stand for duty or a girl he's beginning to like, thereby starting his own war. Knox is relieved of his duties and leaves a heartbroken Maya with a present that constantly reminds her of her real first love. She doesn't know where Knox is, except he is an American soldier. Life takes an awful turn that sees Maya and her family in a Refugee Camp in Kenya. Conditions in a refugee camp are terrible and not at all what she expected. The camp doesn't seem to offer any protection except to harbour some criminals. In the meantime, Knox returns to America and he leaves the army. He returns to help run his family's multi-billion dollar businesses. He has no clue what happened to Maya or where she is. Maya has no clue where Knox is or that he has the means to get her out of her current situation. She works hard, she's determined and she survives all that life is throwing her way. She grows as an independent, confident woman with something to prove. Her luck turns around when her family is accepted as refugees to America. Will she look for Knox? How will they meet? I turn around and look into his blue eyes, searching them. When I'm certain that he's not lying, butterflies erupt in my stomach and I gulp audibly. His fingers move from playing with the tips of my hair to my cheeks. I wrap my arms around his neck and pull him closer. His other hand moves from my waist to my jawline and he trails his thumb along my bottom lip. He pulls my face closer until I can smell his minty breath. His eyes close and so do mine. My head tilts to the side slowly and I feel his lips on mine. *** Natalie Bennett: a sassy 17-year-old, who, after leaving her home in Paris, starts at Lakewater high in America. Natalie is humble, sarcastic and smart, funny and forgiving. She complains when she has to wear dresses, heels and make-up and she can't stand annoying fake girls. Alex Collins: cocky, egocentric, and a magnet to the female race, that is, all girls except Natalie, who can't stand him. Alex is a player, a model, and a singer. His family is rich. He's the definition of a bad boy, but behind those ray bans hides an intelligent soft side. "I may not remember much, but I do know that I had the best time with you last night." Charlie drops his hand from his mouth and lifts his head to stare into my eyes, pushing his hair back from his face at the same time. "And I know this is awkward now, because I'm pretty sure we were both naked together in bed last night..." I choke on air, trying to dispel the imaginary object from my throat. Charlie reaches out and lightly grasps my hand; my eyes slide from our interlocked fingers to his shining pupils. "...but I still wouldn't change a single thing about it. So, I really do look forward to hearing from you later, Kaiydeen." It's like I've been taken hostage by his electric stare. I don't want to look away. I never want to look away. The busy noises of the street and the honking of the traffic fade as I lose focus, nothing strong enough to force my attention away from this boy. Finally, Archer loudly clears his throat as he flings his door open and plops into the car with a huff, breaking the trance between the two of us. I look away as I withdraw my hand from his grasp, trying to figure out what the hell just happened. This is going to be a long 6 months. ●●● Kaiydeen has always known what she wanted, more like who, but she never knew exactly how to get it. So she's complacent with biding her time until it, actually he, comes to her; no matter how long that takes. But then one day she crashes into someone she doesn't expect. Someone that has always had an eye for her, and he isn't satisfied with biding his time until she's his. But when the one person she's always wanted admits he wants her, too, she's forced to make a choice. Should she go for the boy she just met or the boy she's always known? There is some use of mature language in this story, so if your eyes are innocent and you want them to stay that way this might not be the story for you.
