In a Futurist-Victorian London, Ex-Carnie Victor Hart makes his living as a dinner party entertainer and mountebank, using the skills taught to him by his Romani mother – the Patterns. When tragedy strikes a wealthy friend, Victor Hart puts his skills to use in an alternative manner.
This Steampunk London has its fair share of psychos, sickos, and sadists, and it takes a special kind of mind to hunt them. Victor sees human behaviour in a way few others can understand but only as an outsider; certain parts of his humanity are missing and that disturbs him.
As he solves each seemingly unrelated case, a dark pattern slowly begins to reveal itself threatening the heart of the British Empire and even what we feel makes us human.
A Steampunk-detective-noir, darker than most, the first volume features four thrilling cases; the first novel in a Duology.

The Demon of Saint-Eli by riversmelodie
1 part Complete Mature
When a young devout woman seek out his help, the mysterious private investigator Simeon Engels knows that something peculiar is happening behind the masquerade of the town's most powerful man. But he will need to be careful... for justice can very easily be mistaken for bloodlust. The first ever short story of mine to earn a Mature filter (as it typically makes me uncomfortable to write dark and gritty stories), and, another first, one completely outside of the universes of my previous stories. It's completely standalone, with its own mythology and fantasy/realism rules, etc. Which made it even more so liberating, as I no longer needed to stick within an existing continuity in terms of what's possible and what's not. The Demon of Saint-Eli is the introduction (in an hopefully long collection of short stories) of an OC that I have come to love the concept for months: Simeon Engels, the mysterious private investigator that hides a greater secret than anyone could ever guess. At first wishing it to be a Victorian/film noir hybrid, I changed it instead to a steampunk setting, that allowed a greater range of what could be integrated in the story. Overall, I hope you enjoy this story. I hope to make it into a collection of stories revolving around the adventures and character development of Simeon Engels, and I hope that you will find him as interesting as I conceptualize him to be. 9th May 2021: this story is now part of a sale of art for charity. This will remain up for previewing the stories, but upon purchase, will be removed from Wattpad. "In the heart of bustling, eerie London, a malevolent killer lurks in the shadows, targeting the vulnerable and those with scores to settle. For Detective George Reynolds, his initiation into the area-wide murder task force under the guidance of DS Michael Dalton takes a nightmarish turn. His first case is far from the seamless transition he had hoped for. The horrors they uncover are steeped in the supernatural, as an ancient Kanaima demon, unleashed from an Egyptian relic, wreaks havoc on the city. George is torn between the impending 'blood moon,' heralding his transformation into a werewolf, and the relentless evil that seeks to drench London's streets in blood. Guided by DS Michael Dalton, he must untangle the enigmatic threads connecting the first lifeless body beneath the Union Canal Bridge to a string of gruesome murders. But George soon discovers that the demon not only possesses an unwitting host but also answers to a sadistic puppeteer hungry for revenge. George's initiation into this hidden world is a baptism by fire, plunging him into the grip of his first blood moon and awakening his dormant demon side. Amidst the chaos, he forges a sizzling connection with Ellena Walker, the brilliant forensic pathologist, igniting a second chance at love. Prepare for a spine-tingling journey into the heart of darkness, where love and horror intertwine with a chilling supernatural serial killer case. 3 parts Complete Mature

A SYMPHONY BEGINS Midway through the dull, grey journey of college, Victor Roland, a high-functioning autistic, is dragged into his own world of sword and steam. Here, the year is 1884, by Imperial reckoning. In the shadows of its cathedrals, a series of grisly murders sweep the metropolis of Holy Gothica. Soon after his descent, Victor learns of portals in televisions, where daemons lurk in an abyss shrouded in fog, and emerge when blackouts wrack the city. But when he discovers that his friends from "reality" -- Charles Garner, a middle-aged "connoisseur of cannabis," and, Beatrice Morrison, a biker with a goth streak -- are trapped in here, Victor resolves to find them, lest they wind up kidnapped by, "the Dollmaker," and slaughtered behind the screens. Fortunately, Victor awakens to the power of Geist -- the power to summon a living facet of his own psyche, to battle the evil born of everyone's souls. A power that earns him a chance to find his dear friends, and perhaps even a way home ... Whimsical, humorous yet terrifying, Geist: Prelude will hold readers long into the night, and pave the road for a trilogy of gothic fantasy and dystopia.
