"I wish, so much, that I could make a joke. I wish I could lift those tears from your eyes. But you don't deserve that anymore. The only thing you deserve is the look of pain and regret when I pull this trigger..." In this world, every soul and every breathing human has an element. Some are very common, like fire and water. Some are rare and dangerous, like shadow and storms. After many years of battling with horrific accidents from uncontained energies, the government has mandated that every child be embedded with a chip that detects energy levels and given specific medications to nullify the energy. When Karma Alchemy and Rebel Achilles meet in Arrowt High Security Prison, Karma finds that, unfortunately, they're more alike than different. Karma eventually learns to, well, tolerate him enough to start to consider him an ally. But what will happen when the two deadliest criminals in Arrowt end up pitted against eachother in a war against themselves? **This book will involve some mild (kind of) swearing. Don't yell at me. They're, like, 25 and 27 yrs old, what'd ya expect?** **Author's Note: Thank y'all for reading! If you'd like to hear the soundtrack for this book, I've put up a public playlist on my Spotify. The playlist is called "Locked Doors: Soundtrack" and the username is longafteryouregone** **Enjoy the book! ~Cookie**

No one really knew how X's came to be. One day there weren't any, the next day half the population was wiped out. All Karma knew was that they are technological monsters, fit to be the world's biggest weapon, after the splitting particle ray which could reduce any person into air particles in a millisecond. Karma realised how simple it would be to destroy an army even with one X. They were practically indestructible, perfect killing machines, only they'd turned on the government, apparently. Or maybe those bastards had escaped perfectly unharmed, watching how the country was being destroyed. Maybe it was an excuse for overpopulation. xx-xx Karma has been trying to survive for over a year, but it's difficult when X's, mechanical killing machines, roam the streets, hungry for human flesh. Every day that passes by without finding a portal brings the morale lower. They need to escape the country before they all end up dead. It doesn't help that the X's have changed their tactics and are now manipulating people to commit suicide. The death rate keeps increasing, and Karma has to find out what family means, and to what extremes she would go to save the ones she loves.
