A short historical-fiction narrative based off the painting Harvest of Battle (Nevinson, 1919). Amidst the falling shrapnel of shells and cries as bullets pierce men through the heart, a young Alistair Ehlhardt struggles to survive the viciousness of humanity. Enlisted at the age of 18, Alistair is a lowly soldier with a rank to match. Among his unit, a familiar face is what brings the need to survive to well up inside his beaten body. With his friend, Jack Lancaster, at his back, Alistair begins to see a future in which they may just be alive. But will they make it to the end? Or will this war be their demise? Only right timing and how well they can dodge a bullet, will tell.
