In the story, Shane died because of Nyle's cruelty. As a result, she became crazy and eventually believed that killing isn't evil at all. With that, she made killing a personal habit. She even orchestrated the idea of writing a letter about the wrath of Shane; making them believe that Shane won't stop haunting them until everyone is dead. Believing that Shane's revengeful soul is within the campus, Nyle kills everyone in the shadow of Shane. It was not an evil in disguise but a perfect evil hallucination. In the end no one lives. Not even you when you dare...
