Everyone has a sun on their wrist. It's either a black sun or a regular yellow sun. The sun on your wrist, if it's yellow, means you've met your soulmate and have realized it. A half black and yellow sun means you've met your soulmate just haven't actually realized it yet. Now the black sun. No one likes to have a full black sun because it means they haven't met their soulmate. 

Having a black sun is the worst because you're always stuck wondering, "What if I never meet my soulmate?" "What if my  soulmate isn't alive anymore?" "What if-?"

That does matter though because Phil isn't interested and he makes that clear or at least that's how it starts. They tell Dan he should give it a few months, to be patient, and if he still doesn't like him then they'll sign the divorce papers and call it quits. Marriage isn't perfect, right? Well this one is the exact example. But they could always pretend.
