Marcus Cervidae is the son of the Duke of the North and has decided to join the secret Royal Championship. The winner can earn fame and quite a bit of money and is selected as the personal protector of the Crown Prince. Although Marcus had a wonderful life and has received an excellent education and a magnificent training in al the aspects of warfare, the opponents are all but eager to see a noble trying to take their one chance at fame and money. Marcus has no allies and he starts to regret his decision of being part of the project. When suddenly a 21st participant shows up three months into the training. Only two things are known about him. One: He used to be a slave who fought during the Gladiator Games in the South
Two: his name, Nero.
They find peace in each others company and Marcus and Nero establish a peculiar friendship between a Lord and a slave. They learn and grow together but only one can be crowned Champion.
