The last time she'd seen one of her race south of the mountains, she'd watch them hang for their ancestry. Years later, servant Kali acts as Lady's maid to Teslanar Imormetal in a small House set deep in the woods. As the only daughter of her family, Tess must earn her right to inherit and to that end a visit from the Prince is expected any day.

Trying to keep true to her nature and yet escape the notice of the too keen Captain Hiltstar is none to easy a task for Kali, especially when he reveals his traveling companion. As the decision for Teslanar to leave home creeps closer, tensions in the House cause Kali to reveal more than she planned. Will she manage to escape the confines and return with them to the Capitol or will she remained trapped?

When a battalion of soldiers and Prince in disguise show up, life will never be the same again.
