Hanahaki disease is usually caused by unrequited/one-sided love, the patient would cough up flowers or flower petals from the pain. It can only be cured when the love becomes requited or if the patient forgets the memories of their beloved... 

Kuroko Tetsuya was diagnosed with Hanahaki disease after realizing the truth that his parents never loved him, yet it became worse after all the suffering in back in Teiko (when all his friends left him). 

He only told a friend in Seirin he can dearly trust, Kagami Taiga, (and his aunt) but just when Kuroko thought he'll soon recover from his illness, he bumped into a certain redhead inside the local libary, who appeared to be Akashi Seijuro. One of the five who hurted Kuroko from the past.
