I watched her hands find a scar on her wrist, and she rubbed it. She drew in a breath. "When I was three, I was attacked by vampires. I remember being bitten and feeling an intense burn starting in my wrist. I felt cold. My heart was racing."
By this point tears welled in her eyes.
"I remember calling for Jakob and the child who had bitten me backed away. He looked at me like he felt pity. Like he was apologizing for what he did.
