The Intrepids story is about how an Earthling child, Katie, armed with a computer tablet loaded with all the information of her world gets transported to Centauri Prime. She got there by eating the fruit from a tree of knowledge planted by a group of early dragon settlers. The trees were planted as a transport system to connect the colonies spread throughout the galactic region. She became friends with Zeba, a Centaurian that transports and trades goods and information between the different Centaurian communities. Zeba is from the mile high table-top lands that butts up again an ocean. They mine below ground for various elements and minerals to design and build tools and weapons the centaur communities use. Katie willingly shared everything she knew to the Centaurs to help them defend themselves from their predators. Because of her, the Centaur communities learned to fly. Flight technology advanced so rapidly that within a couple of generations they were flying into space and were able to hold their own against the Dragons that populated their planetary system. Katie grows up to witness this history by locating the trees of knowledge and making the jump between the two star systems.
