The year is 1896, and Michael MacBranain is in desperate need of a job.
Fortunately for him (or perhaps not-so-fortunately), the Grim Reaper is also in desperate need of an assistant!
The trouble is, Michael is terribly superstitious and loathes himself for his own cowardice.

But with a dark supernatural force on the loose in New York City, there may be more at stake for Michael and his employer than just job security!

A multi-part short story, serving as a prototype for the future web-serial "Mortality", the episodic adventures of the Grim Reaper and his assistant. While this story is not as well-researched or polished as I hope for the actual series to be, it does give something of an idea of what I'm going for character and story-wise. I hope you enjoy this debut~

A unique reaper with algophobia and a slower healing process than most, a grim reaper also once trained by the once and still legendary undertaker. Follow Luna as she does her job as a reaper, but comes across situations requiring her to make choices that will effect her and others around her. Tormented by the demon Claude Faustus while also working out an engagement, only to meet Sebastian Michaelis who seemed all too familiar from a long forgotten past memory. With her heart all tied up in knots she must do her best to endure and make the right decisions or her entire life as a reaper will crumble before her. Note: I suggest reading the A/N at the beginning, it has some important information that is good too know before you start reading. Thank you and enjoy! This is a story about the Grim Reaper and the souls he delivers. The Grim Reaper delivers souls from earth to what most comprehend as the 'afterlife'. When there is the occasional resistance from unwilling souls, he'll retrieve an old memory or feeling of theirs and let them experience it again. It usually works to persuade them to leave the world - souls who had suicidal thoughts in the past, those who lost loved ones and didn't want to continue living without them, and those who did something wrong and felt huge crushing guilt.
