Everyone was marked differently. A small mark on your wrist gave away everything about your feelings. You couldn't hide it from anyone. Your soul-powered this small little mark. Telling it everything it needs to know. Letting your mood swirl in the murky colors that shined deep inside it. A bright yellow will shine if you are happy. Maybe a deep blue if you are sad. This little marking makes you different. No two in the world are alike. They are the only things that make you, you.
But what if your marking doesn't work?
Dan Howell was born without a marking. The normal swirls and spirals were not on his wrist. Unlike everyone else in the world who did have this mark. Dan felt alone. An outcast. People pushed him aside since he was now a 'freak' for being different. He wanted to be like everyone else. Yet this mark was missing from him.
Phil Lester has a mark. But it doesn't work. The mark doesn't shine like the others. It only says a pitch black color that never changes. Only two small lines showed his marking. Something that is never seen. Phil knew he was different. Yet that didn't stop him. Without the mark, he could feel whatever he pleased without fearing what people thought. Now he's an upbeat, outgoing person who tries to make everyone's life better. Even though people whisper about him and spread nasty rumors nothing can bring him down. Not when he's the happiest he could ever be.
