In Crystal's society, the "mentally disabled" were ordered to be effaced. Effacing is a process in which one's brain is partially removed, the part where the disabilities are. However, this part of the brain also holds your memories. Everyone who goes through Effacing will suffer the unknowingness of their former life. When Crystal wakes up in a hospital unaware of who anyone is, the life ahead of her is going to be very different than how it was before. While still trying to figure out life all over again, she comes across something that will shatter her more than she already is.

Bonnie and her seven brothers lives changed forever, after the sudden and tragic death of Bonnies' parents, eight years ago. They had to find a way to survive and make ends meet, staying with their uncle and cousins until her oldest brother, Alexander could become their legal guardian. Bonnie has never really 'loved' herself. When she was younger, she would always pick out something about her she didn't like. Whether it was a bruise on her arm, or her slightly disheveled hair, she would be upset and unhappy with her appearance. She has always craved to be liked, loved and accepted. She's now 14 and is starting her first year as a freshman at high school. Though high school isn't going to be easy like it was for her popular, loud brothers. Jealousy. Heartbreak. Bullies. Pressure. Judgement. Adapting to a new change is hard. Bonnie can't quite take it, she gets overwhelmed, and her brain feels too 'busy'. She can't help feeling what it would be like if she wasn't there or if she stayed silent, nobody would notice. She doesn't crave to be a popular girl, or to be eye candy for the boys, she just wants to be known as 'pretty' and liked. Her worst nightmare is to be known as the far girl, or the ugly one. This need becomes overwhelming, and soon her body shuts down, and her mental health plummets. What Do You See When You Look At Me?
Raised as an only child, in a happy, loving home, Liya was surrounded by love at every turn. She saw it in the way her father looked at her mother, in the little gestures, and the grand ones. However, when diagnosed with Autism (ASD) as a child, her parents feared that her social awkwardness, lack of interest in physical touch, social interactions, and displays of affection, would hold her back. Not just in school, but in life and love, as well. When a phone call, in her third year of University, alters the life she had worked so hard to create for herself, Liya decides to return home, in the hopes she can salvage some semblance of what she once had and keep her family above water. When, upon her return to New York two years later, Liya obtains a writing job at a top Engineering magazine publisher and soon finds herself knee deep in the Biomedical Engineering world, in the middle of Toulouse, France, with the weight of her first major article on her back, and a promise to a friend that she would let go for once and 'try'. To let what happens, happen. So, when a stubborn, raven-haired man insists on taking her to dinner, she keeps her promise and tries. Tries and hopes she doesn't regret it in the morning.
