The human mind is a complex thing, similarities actually less common than differences in an average case. Due to this, half of the time people can't (or more plainly, don't) understand the other and this may cause confusion, a possible outbreak of misplaced anger or sadness. Doubts planted on someone, when they shouldn't be. Lance, a human being himself, often felt guilty thinking these thoughts when he himself had a brain that worked up different points and opinions.
Not that it would ever stop him from second guessing one person in particular. Himself.
