"I don't think you understand the severity of the situation," I said, my face mastering the same kind of childish disinterest that Maverick always wore during a long lecture in Pre-Calculus. 
     "I don't think you understand the situation at all," he replied coldly, his jaw clenched. "You can't just pick up an entire town and move it because of one problem."
     "But people are going missing and being found dead!"
     "You know what we do in America when someone kills our citizens? We fight."

     Taren Gynnsey is your average sixteen year old girl. She goes to a high school, has a best friend, and likes to spend most of her time sleeping. Unfortunately for her, all of these things are now in the past.

When Taren is suddenly forced to move from her cozy home town to Ember Heights Montana, her entire life is flipped upside down. The town houses things unexplainable to even the most skeptical of people, and it's residents are no normal next door neighbors. The teachers at her new high school try to avoid students with any connections to it at all costs. Barely anybody comes in or out. 

When three people go missing, the last of which being Taren's newly made friend, she bands together with others connected to the missing people to search for them and solve the case.

Follow Taren's adventure as she tries to uncover the secrets of Ember Heights, forges new alliances, makes enemies, and falls for the annoyingly handsome hockey-player that she shares her classes with.

This story is not getting the attention it deserves, so I am attempting to "re-brand" it. Maybe no one "gets" it. If you want to read about "Normal" teenagers, maybe this isn't for you, it's more complicated than that. It's about a teenager who doesn't fit it, but doesn't want to, who has the best two friends that anyone could have. Who watched his father lose his job in the Recession and then loses his home, and how he copes, especially when he learns that their new house is haunted and the ghost is in his room. Michael was an average kid, although he's always stood out. He was a school jock but also a skater whose long blond hair almost reaches his waist. When his parents lived in a house in a home owners association like all his other friends, life seemed normal. Then his father lost his job and suddenly those "friends" weren't there anymore--except for his two best friends, Short Round and Dewey. The three are skaters, good ones, who live for girls and their skateboards. They're also basically good kids who take pride in being different without paying attention to it. When Michael loses his home and his family has to move they have his back. And they are there for him when the ghost girl starts following him around. Mariah was murdered when she was just 15, her remains were never found, although no one but her and her ghost friend, Crazy Girl, know where their bodies are buried. The house Michael now lives in is the one where she lived with her family, and her old room is now his.
