It's been over ninety-seven years since a devastating nuclear apocalypse wiped out almost all life on Earth.
The only known survivors lived on twelve space stations in Earth's orbit prior to the apocalyptic event. The space stations banded together to form a single massive station called 'The Ark', where about 2,400 people live under the leadership of Chancellor Thelonious Jaha. Resources are scarce, so all crimes-regardless of their nature or severity-are punishable by ejection into space (also known as 'floating') unless the perpetrator is under 18 years of age.
After The Ark's life-support systems are found to be critically failing, one-hundred juvenile prisoners are declared 'expendable' and sent to the surface, in a last-ditch attempt to determine whether Earth is habitable again, in a program called 'The 100'. The teens arrive on a drop ship on a seemingly pristine planet they have only seen from space.
They attempt to find refuge and supplies at an old military installation, Mount Weather Emergency Operations Centre, located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. However, they land some distance from the intended target and soon face other problems. Confronting both the wonders and the dangers of this rugged new world, they struggle to form a tentative community.
James 'Jay' Walker, a mechanical engineer on The Ark, is known for being shy and reserved, only speaking when spoken to, and doing the best he can when given a job. His job, although not always the safest, landed him in the social circles of both Finn Collins-the Spacewalker-and Raven Reyes-the daredevil mechanic.
But after an incident that James couldn't have seen coming, he lands himself in the Skybox. Then soon after, a trip down to Earth.

A strange-looking contraption is seen rapidly falling from the sky. Its descent was calculated and precise...until it wasn't. Halfway after entering the green and blue planet's atmosphere, it started burning up, rendering some of its parts unusable. Inside this burning contraption are a bunch of...kids. These kids numbered a hundred, have ages ranging from 12 to 17. And as for why they are all strapped inside this burning 90-year-old dropship heading to the ground...Well, it all started at the end. Ninety-seven years ago, a nuclear apocalypse struck the Earth, leaving the planet simmering in radiation. But of course, the human race was a stubborn one. At the time of the bombs, twelve nations had operational space stations that they used to house survivors. Later, these twelve stations banded up and merged, becoming the one we now know as The Ark. For many years now, The Ark has kept what's left of humanity alive. But about a year ago, an engineer discovered a huge problem in the Ark's system. The Ark's life support systems are failing, and it won't be long before they run out of air and die. Hence, the current situation. These kids are being sent on a desperate mission to see if the ground is survivable again. But why kids though? Won't it be better to have the more capable scientists or guards be the ones to take this risk? When they get caught, she gets an extra charge for assaulting a guard. After getting an unexpected visitor, she practically gets spoiled in the Skybox. Everyone adores the girl, even the guards sneaking the girl things they shouldn't be. After 97 years, they send the delinquents to the gronud. Artemis Blake, unknowlingly being looked at as their leader. Alongside her best friend, who was also a second born. She's reunited with her best friend and crush John Murphy. Their kind of love only comes once in a lifetime. And they just happened to find it in this one. Grounders, Mountain Men, and even adults of The Ark won't be able to keep them apart.

With the idea of freedom, Hailey knows that she is never safe and that if weaknesses are shown, someone will use them against her. Will she be able to overcome her emotional and mental walls, even if it means that she'd be vulnerable? Being on the ground will change Hailey in ways that the people on the ark would never expect. She will find a better version of herself. Hailey will become what she was always meant to be, a warrior.
