Marlena Johnson has never had it easy. She grew up poor and watched as her parents struggled to provide for her. After a terrible accident, her uncle sort of takes her in. Now she works at Wal-Mart, sleeps at Wal-Mart, and basically just lives there in exchange for a good education, which is what her parents always wanted for her. To make things even more difficult, her young math teacher, Mr. Anderson, gives her a hard time.
