Marlena Johnson has never had it easy. She grew up poor and watched as her parents struggled to provide for her. After a terrible accident, her uncle sort of takes her in. Now she works at Wal-Mart, sleeps at Wal-Mart, and basically just lives there in exchange for a good education, which is what her parents always wanted for her. To make things even more difficult, her young math teacher, Mr. Anderson, gives her a hard time. He sees her as just another teenager who doesn't care about school, but he doesn't see who she really is. Will this relationship be one filled with hatred...or with love?
