We've all heard of Hogwarts. But what about its American counterpart, Ilvermorney? What about its students? What kinds of things happen there?

This is where a group of close friends come in, led by the popular Thunderbird ( the house that favors adventurers) Nathan Goldstein, and followed by his friends: the mystic, eccentric, and free spirited Ophelia Teagarden who is in Pukwudgie ( which favors healers), the hardworking, silver-tongued, and overachieving Elena Rosales, who is in Horned Serpent ( which favors intellectuals) the athletic, feisty, and fun-loving Thunderbird Maelin Nguyen, the calculating, clever, and ambitious Adsanti Clearwater , who is in Wampus ( which favors warriors) and the studious and shy Horned Serpent,Lucas Silverstone. The five of them have been best friends since their first year at Ilvermorney and they're all excited to start their fifth year together.

That is, until the suicide of Ophelia's roommate, the shy and awkward Calla Huntley, who is found with her wrists slit in the gardens by the school. Or at least everyone thinks it's a suicide, until Matt Tindall, the Head Boy, is found with his throat slit. One by one, students begin dying, and it soon becomes very clear that it's not suicide, but sacrifice, that claims their lives. Can the students and teachers figure out who the sacrifices are for before it's too late to stop them? Can they save the students and the school- before they're the next name on the list of the dead?
