{I love the silent hour of night, for blissful dreams may then arise, revealing to my charmed sight what may not bless my waking eyes ~ Anne Brontë}

I was a modest and unadorned woman. While the world viewed my sister, ever so elaborate, with awe-stricken, widened eyes, I sunk into the shadows and remained unnoticed. If you were to search up the word "mundane" in the English dictionary, you would see the name "Sage Elliot" in bold lettering. Any human being with sense could see that I was nothing special. I was born in a wearisome fashion and had persisted in being unvaried since then. But the truth is, although I rant about my monotonous personality, I loved living my life this way. It was a tranquil paradise where I did not have to worry about all of the eyes in the room falling on me when I made a mistake. Peaceful. How curious that life took that peaceful paradise from me in a mere second.

My Last Breath (Book one of The Portal Series) by Chinesechickens123
63 parts Complete Mature
BOOK ONE: Having enough courage to run through the woods and away from the people who convinced me they were saving me was not how I believed I'd spend my day. Yet, there I went escaping from the only place I knew existed in the world. Being held captive was too much for me, especially when these people wouldn't tell me who they were or even who I was. The first moment in my life I recall very clearly. I awoke in a dark room, with recollection of everything that happened in the world except for one thing. I had no memory of myself existing, I didn't know where I was or why these men kept me from leaving. Days after I first woke I asked plenty of questions, and yet none of them were answered. The only thing I learned was that I was not allowed outside because the woods heald the most powerful magic on the planet, the most dangerous magic. It was more than just bad men and curiosity about the forest that got me to leave, it was a pull towards something; towards magic. Once I was in the forest turning back was never an option, so I put it in my head that I'd keep walking until I found a civilization or a nice paved road that would lead to safety. But that never happened because the forest has a force living through it. Believing that the forest held something strange was the easy part but experiencing it myself was something totally different. I didn't expect anything normal but I didn't expect to be completly engulfed into the forest. I was led by an unknown presence that made me truly believe it was a living being, and in fact it is. I was innocent then, but now I know that anything can be hidden under a small platform in the woods with a secret bigger than the world itself. I was given life that day, until it all ended months later; the day I took my last breath.
A Lord and Lace (Regency au! Prince Arthur x oc) by kfacecookie
1 part Complete
A wayward regency au one shot I wrote for fun, and because the concept wouldn't stop haunting my mind. ~ Trying to get back up after his ex-fiancé left him, Lord Arthur Pendragon relents to his friends and families idea of hosting a party in his family's estate. Although holding up hope for a new love that evening, he could not predict falling head over heel for a woman with haunted eyes, who secretly hides a crooked and wicked grin and a spark of intrigue unlike any he's glimpses before. After catching the sight of that side of her, and the way her families mistreatment severely dampens it, he finds himself sure of one thing. He's going to get her out their grasp, but doing so might be more tricky then first expected. Miss Harriet Frodesdotter is stuck in a hell of constantly being forced into a uncomfortable, lace covered, dress, into unbearably loud ballrooms, and dealing with condescending suitors that her controlling sister manages to steer towards her. The sudden approach by a Lord Pendragon does make her pause however, his sweet and concerned eyes appearing to be almost horrifyingly sincere as he offers to help her with her family issues. She doesn't trust him, he's not the first to claim to be her savour for purely selfish reasons, but something tells her that there's something more to him, and not in a bad way. ~ Content warning for ableism, family issues (including abuse, I don't perceive it as especially graphic, but it's there) and depictions of meltdowns.

In a small, misty town nestled at the edge of a vast, enchanted forest, lives Elena, a young woman with a mysterious past she can't remember. She's always felt drawn to the forest, even though the townspeople warn of dangerous creatures that lurk within it under the full moon. One evening, while wandering near its edge, she encounters a wounded wolf with eyes that seem unnervingly human. Against her better judgment, she helps it, only for the creature to disappear by morning. Days later, a mysterious stranger, Lucas, arrives in town. Handsome and rugged, Lucas has a dark, secretive air. He seems strangely familiar to Elena, and as they grow closer, she notices that he always vanishes on the nights of the full moon. Her curiosity soon leads her to a discovery - Lucas is a werewolf, cursed to transform every full moon, struggling to balance his humanity and the beast within. As their love deepens, Elena learns that the curse isn't just his - it's part of her forgotten past as well. The bond between them isn't accidental but destined. Elena's family had been part of a lineage of protectors, those who once safeguarded the world from the wrath of werewolves but were wiped out in a tragic betrayal. Now, Elena is the last of her kind, the key to breaking the curse, but only by facing unimaginable danger. Lucas and Elena must navigate their growing love, while also dealing with rival werewolves, a mysterious witch, and the secrets that have been buried deep within the forest. Together, they must decide whether love is strong enough to tame the beast - or whether the beast will destroy everything they hold dear.

No one ever knows the whole story... Nestled deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, something is emerging. Kept in absolute secrecy, it seeps into a fading town, quietly shared from person to person. For Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate, this discovery could mean an escape from his empty existence. To Rachel DuValle, perpetually underestimated and dismissed by the world, magic represents a chance to become something much greater than herself. In the face of an unsuspecting world, their decisions shape the growth of a budding society discovering untold power. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever - or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. ----- The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series.
