When her father is approached by Thorin Oakenshield to accompany him on a quest, Laelia can't help but be frightened. Her father is frail and injured, the burns from Smaug never fully healed when they were attacked in Erebor 60 years ago.
She takes his place on the quest, although Thorin thinks she's too young and irritating as she constantly defies him during their long journey. But he feels something for her even though he's not exactly sure what it is.
Thorin will be challenged to fight hard for what he loves, because there are others who want it too.
