Sequel of Rumors of War and The Immortality War. Book Three of Five. Set during Captain America: The Winter Soldier. .•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•. Steve trails off, his shoulders sagging. "It's just not the same." "Nor should it be." I reach over, placing my hand over his. "I know things are different, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing. Nostalgia is a dirty liar, Steve. It makes us forget all the horrible things that happened in the old days. And there were horrible things. We can miss the past, but I've tried very hard to also love the present. After all, in the end, it's the only thing we have." .•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•. A lot has changed for Emma Barnes and Steve Rogers since the Chitauri, and mischief god Loki, invaded New York City two years ago. She went from being a fugitive, forced to live outside the United States, and a known murderer to being an Avenger, a welcomed-American, and a hero to many around the globe. Her reputation as Lady Liberty has been reinstated, and she fights along her friends--both old and new--to maintain order in the brave, new world. After Natasha invited both Emma and Steve to re-join SHIELD, the trio have become as close as friends can be. Life is good for Emma, and she finally has some peace about her past. But nothing lasts forever. Long-suppressed secrets start to surface for the first time in decades. Secrets that have kept Emma's sworn enemy, HYDRA, alive and well inside SHIELD. And when a figure from her and Natasha's past shows up in an attempt to kill Nick Fury, Emma, Steve, and Natasha are forced to go against everything they've fought for the past two years. They're forced to become fugitives again, forced to go against the law and organization they helped create, and forced to face the ghosts from their pasts. Especially the ghost with a metal arm. Anastasya is an assassin, an advanced super soldier created by HYDRA in WWII, alongside James Barnes. But her life gets a different turn than his; she wakes up after being in ice for decades and, luckily for everyone, Tony Stark finds her first when she returns to the mainland. Her biggest problem, with all the problems that come with Thanos wanting to kill half of all living creatures, is getting control over her emotions. The man who helps her understand the importance of allowing yourself to feel is Steve Rogers, with who she develops a special connection. But what happens if, after all they did to prevent it, she does get activated again? Will The Avengers have to face two remaining Winter Soldiers at once? Or can they get through the hard core of The Soldiers and tame their spirits before it's too late, before the fight of their lives? • • timeline is set before Avengers: Infinity War • there is usually a video at the beginning of every chapter for the ~vibe~ • I do not own or pretend to own Marvel's characters, plots, buildings etc. © cover by me ⚠ disclaimer: this story is mature, it contains graphic depictions of violence, sexuality, strong language, mental illnesses and other mature themes ⚠ have in mind: I have no idea if this book would make sense considering all Marvel's 'rules' about powered people, winter soldiers, time travel etc. I just came up with this idea, decided to write it down and here we are :)
