Chuyện xảy ra ở một thế giới pháp thuật nơi có giới quí tộc, là những người có thể sử dụng phép thuật, và giới bình dân, là những người không thể sử dụng phép thuật. Nhân vật chính là Louise de la Vallière, con gái thứ 3 của một gia đình quyền quí ở vương quốc Tristain.
