It's not just a color of skin.

It's a feeling in your heart and mind.

A culture that encapsulates you.

It's our voice,

someone

told our maker

this sound needs

some more bass

Our hair,

These curls

That perm and relaxer

those naps combed through with a hot comb

black beauty washed in the kitchen sink

Our souls,

built to withstand hardship

and jump at God-given opportunities

from the man trying to bring us down

to the snatching of blessings from the air

Our fight,

we fought our way

out of our roots

to the front of the bus

To our rights at NASA

Our community,

made to dish out tough love

no feelings spared

but true love nonetheless

that comes with real loyalty

Our magic,

Ever heard, "black is beautiful, baby"

It's true. We're magical ebony skinned to light skinned, no shade missed

The rainbow was God's promise to man to never flood the earth

The black woman was His promise to man to never let us forget how majestic He is

Our music,

"hype" is mimicry

of that beat that just

thrums through us

pouring out like God's everlasting water

Our bond,

built strong like a black man's back

supporting his family

that exists from one of us

to the next

Without these things

We wouldn't be

"Black."

Tender

15 parts Ongoing

Struggles have never been so beautiful. TENDER by FULLOFMOON is an exploration of the human experience, delving into abstract yet universal struggles. Through experimental use of various literary devices, classical references, political theories, economic concepts, and diverse structures, it addresses uncomfortable emotions, world systems, existential questions, and infatuations (with people, things, and the self.) By employing relatable subject matter and simple language, TENDER seeks to show how deeply beautiful our tender encounters truly are. Book cover photo credits: Reylia Slaby - Dagny Tarver
