She was forced to watch her step-dad murder her mom when she was fifteen, and now at sixteen, she lives with her brother Josh, and his boyfriend Jake. Although she may be safe in her brothers apartment, Brennan High School is just another place where she gets abused. But this time its by her obsessive, abusive ex. boyfriend, and school heartthrob Zack. Although Kayla doesn't fit the whole 'emo' part, she really doesn't want to live anymore.
