I glared and jutted out my chin defiantly.

He growled and slammed me against the concrete wall behind me. I see the anger in his eyes, but something else that surprises me. Hurt.
"Does it ever bother you that all those hundreds of years you were gone, no one ever saved you. No one even tried. You know why? Because they don't care about you. No one does. His eyes burn into mine, daring me to defy him.
My eyes water with pain and frustration at his words. I'm beginning to believe they're true. I bite my tongue to stop myself from screaming profanity. With a curt nod of my head, he steps back, smirking in victory.
