Every few years the country of Illea grants thirty five lucky girls the chance of a lifetime called The Selection. These young women are transported to temporarily live at the luxurious palace as they compete for the Prince's heart in order to become Illea's future Queen. 

Seventeen year old Vanessa Morita was never interested in anything relating to the  royal family, much less The Selection. All she ever wanted was to become a professional dancer. That is until her family began having money problems and they weren't able to pay for her school's tuition. 

Suddenly she saw things in a new light and realized that the only way to make her dreams come true was to enter the selection.

When a prince comes of age in the country of Illea, where everyone is set into castes, 35 women-one from each province, is picked to compete in the competition of a lifetime, for the crown of the princess and future queen of Illea. Aphmau Shalashaska has no desire to become a royal, much less even meet the prince, but finds that, perhaps he isn't anywhere near as bad as she thought, and she finds something far better than she ever expected.
