A companion story to my novel Shadows May Fall.

*Folks who have been reading along - you may have noticed that some of the parts have been unpublished (the ones set in 1904 and 1908.) The reason for this is that while I really enjoyed delving into the past with these characters and fleshing out Daniel and Lillian, they weren't really adding anything and coming up with a third one to fill the gap was just that -- filling the gap. I'll post them over at my website once this story is complete.

"A longing not her own, a sorrow centuries old, and a name she had never spoken-yet had always known." ----- Damian Cassius Gray was a man of honor, a warrior by blood, a king by birthright. But fate had made him a pawn. He had been betrayed by the woman he loved, branded a traitor, and cast into the shadows. In his grief, he became something else-something far more dangerous. Natalie Vivienne Deighton was never meant to be his, but she made him believe otherwise. She had been a fleeting dream, belonging to him in the night, and to another in the light, a cruel mirage-one he chased until it destroyed him. Love was her weapon, and deception was her game, and for that she died. ----- Betrayed by love, deceived by power, and robbed of his throne, Gray had then turned to the only force that could grant him justice-dark magic. He vowed that the lineage of the king who wronged him would be erased from history. And so, the kingdom fell to ruin, abandoned under the weight of his curse. But vengeance came at a cost, for in death, he was denied both peace and punishment. Immortality became his prison. ----- Sometimes, Primrose Lillian Thompson dreams of places she has never been, of a voice that calls her by a name she does not know, and of a sorrow that does not belong to her-yet clings to her soul like a shadow. She wakes up in the middle of the night with her cheeks wet, her throat sore, and her heart aching for a love she doesn't understand. A love that isn't hers. Or is it? ----- ◈ Weekly Updates ◈

Eliora May, a lifetime citizen of Maplemaw, is something many women are not. Literate. An activist. But these become hard to complete as all is stripped away from her with the coming of unexpected news. Marriage and war between the faeires and elves of Ilkaphene. A land of magic, where flowers and fungi grow as tall as their castles. Where forest creatures live in harmony. A land of peace. A land where a fairy married an elf. A fairy princess marrying an elf princess at that. Eliora begins to hear rumors of the war. How it was destroying an ethereal land. And, worst of all, how women were being silenced to prevent more "corruption". As the war and its standards begin to seep into Elvangmort, changing Eliora's home into one of constrictions, hushed whispers, and worst of all, a hatred toward women, she knows that she must do something to save her freedom and the freedoms of those around her. *** This is my submission for ONC 2025!
