These are the thoughts of a gladiator of African descent as he contemplates his situation. How he has to endure the social constraints that his Roman masters impose upon him. He's mind is at war with itself, in the eyes of his master is nothing, he is less than a man. It is only when he enters the arena that he's existence means anything, it is where he becomes a god. Ridus= A wooden sword awarded to gladiators who have earned their freedom. Ludus= A school for training gladiators.
