Everything went wrong when Amelia Blake was around. People died, got injured, houses caught on fire and things exploded. For seventeen years Amelia was locked in her house by her mother so she wouldn't cause any harm. But when she sneaks out and gets caught on video after an accident, the Skulls come after her. The Skulls are a society that monitors the dead, otherwise known as the Bones, and they've searched for Amelia for the seventeen years she was in solitude. Amelia is the only one who is fully able to control the Bones but when the Skulls take her, she tries everything to escape. In the society of Skulls and Bones, you can't trust anyone and Amelia learns the hard way that she's on her own.

Amelia is a 13-year-old girl living in a quiet, unremarkable town in America, where not many people reside. She shares her life with her parents, her older sister, her younger brother, and their dog. As a new school year begins, a new girl arrives at Amelia's school. Soon after her arrival, strange and unsettling changes begin to take place. The students turn against the newcomer, blaming her for everything that goes wrong - but Amelia chooses to defend her. Then, terrifying events begin unfolding at the school. Mr. Harvey, the night watchman, notices things during his shifts that would terrify anyone. But after the winter break, Mr. Harvey mysteriously disappears, and the school itself starts to decay. Classes are moved online, yet the troubles only deepen: children in the town begin to vanish. The chief of police investigates, realizing that these are no longer coincidences. Darkness has descended upon the town, and Amelia must face it. But can a 13-year-old girl find the strength to save her home - and everyone she loves?
